Awkward

mood: Awkward

Today I was calling my soon-to-be-ex to arrange use of the car this Saturday. She happened to ask if I was going to a filk thing.

I told her that "yes, it is the monthly Massfilk meeting."
She stated that she "might like to go to that also."

Anyone have any suggestions on how to handle a situation like this?

If you've got exclusive rights to use it, I'd suggest that she find someone else to go with...but that's just me.

Get a new (different) car and stop relying on her for anything. Or take public, get a ride from anyone else... whatever.

If you get along with her, no harm going int he same car. But you should probably arrange for your own transport.

Well, has she previously expressed interest in filking? If not, you could just try to discourage her and hope she changes her mind about being interested.

Give her contact numbers for other members in the area and suggest that she ask them for a ride. Sorry Peter. Sounds like she's still having regrets.

You know, I don't think I've ever seen/heard you talk about what kind of relationship you would like to have with your soon-to-be-ex, except "ex".

Being me, my only suggestion is direct honesty, aka "I think that could be a pretty awkward trip with things still in flux the way they are." With whatever statement about your post finalized divorce relationship you would like that is both honest and tactful.

"Well, then let me know if you will be going so that I can make my own travel arrangements."

My experience is that one is best served by keeping one's travel arrangements seperate from that of one's ex, particularly if one's ex has a history of passive aggressive behaviors. It's best if you both have the option to come and go when you want to, is the point. -H...

That's correct. I was going to point you at his post on LJ, but it's seems you have replied there already. I am certain he will appreciate the assistance. I will see you at the MASSFilk meeting! -H...

She had second thoughts when I mentioned that I would probably take the train if she wanted to go to the Filk circle.

Passwive Agressive behaviour -- it puts the bacon back in peanut butter.
